Why is she calling me? She's got some nerve, thinking she can just ring me out of the blue. The only one who could have given my number to her is Karla. I picked up the phone, and said,

“What do you want?”

Rachel didn't say anything at first. She knew I was ticked. After a long pause, she asked,

“Why won't your friend leave me alone?”

Is she for real? She considers Karla a bother? I couldn't believe her. I said, defensively,

“Look. She's a sweet girl. It's your loss.”

Rachel laughed, ever so mockingly, and said,
