God never lies - just his spokesmen. Politics is an industry. Media is an industry. Religion is an industry. One cannot thrive without the other. False gods are suitable for both sectors. Spokespeople for God have been making up half-truths and lies for centuries. Men wrote holy books full of lies and stories of persecutions and political misdeeds. Mind you; there were laws contained therein which were made to be broken. The punishment was either a forgivable sin, maiming, or death. Some take the book to be literal - others selectively. The book was meant to be a way to control the faithful and pity, convert, or destroy the non-believer. Free thinking was officially not sanctioned.
