At first, I thought it was just normal. Basements are creepy. Strange noises can usually be explained by washing machines or old furnaces. But, this was different. What I felt whenever I was in the basement sent chills down my spine more than any noise I heard. 

Now to paint a picture, my father built an inside playhouse for us in the basement. It was mainly wooden boards framing a room with a door that was made the same way. You could see completely inside the area and there were no solid walls except for the cement wall it was up against. To my sister and I, we were the luckiest girls in the neighborhood because we now had a place to play when the weather didn't allow us to go outside.
