Attending a craft show with your daughter can be an expensive business. My online crafting friends had warned me, but I didn’t believe them until today.

The day started badly. Jamie wasn’t happy. “How come she gets a day off? Why can’t I stay home?”

“Firstly, she’s only ten and you’re already studying for the state examinations next year. Secondly, I couldn’t get us weekend tickets.”

“You never bring me to anything on school days.”
