My second market experience was yesterday and my super-saleswoman, Hannah, helped again. She brought four of her colourful homemade tote-bags and sold them all. I’m so proud of her.

This time the only allotment produce I had was plum jam and the rest of Dad’s chutney. It’s harvest season but the birthday barbeque last weekend wiped out our supplies. I wanted to sell some of Cal’s Amazing Tomatoes (each time he mentions them it’s with a capital letter) but he refused. “They’re too tasty to sell, Trish. We’ll eat them ourselves.”

Instead of lettuce and onions my half of the stall was slung with bright patterned bunting and the sign I embroidered to match my business cards. “Sewing...
