Tonight was date night. After we had Jamie we realised if we didn't make an effort our conversations would revolve around him forever. We decided to go out once a month and never, on pain of death, talk about the baby.

I don't often say anything good about my Dragon-In-Law (a.k.a. Margaret O'Hare, Cal's mother) but she did babysit for us during the first year of Jamie's life. In the second year her offers grew less frequent and Cal's promotion to the crime scene team meant longer hours. Our date nights slipped.

Now, with Jamie a spotty teenager, date nights are a rare beast that would excite a wildlife photographer. Tonight's date was actually meant to be for our wedding anniversary, last October.
