Lu wasn’t sure why Tori hadn’t spotted the flaw in her plan—usually her ideas were so brilliant. “How can you be sure that what you see in the elder care documents from Hope will be any more reliable than the nav logs? How do we know anything we’re seeing is accurate?”

Silence fell. The others all stared at her.

“She has a point,” Gabe said.

He didn’t need to sound so surprised. Lu glared at him as she said, “Besides, if all it takes to clear up this nightmare is resetting the armbands, wouldn’t everybody in the war have just done that?”

“If they realized soon enough what was going on—and had armbands instead of brainware, I think they did,” Mr. Yi said.
