Tori nearly jumped out of her skin when someone put a hand on her shoulder.

“You OK, Tori?” Lu asked.

Tori stifled a yelp. “Don’t sneak up on me like that!”

Lu giggled. “Sorry. I thought you realized I was here. I made enough noise knocking over that fern by the entrance.”

Tori looked back, and sure enough, the fern under the light sconce left of the doorway sat askew, and bits of dirt dusted the floor beneath it.

Tori got up and straightened the plant, then located a rag in the bridge’s cleaning locker to deal with the spill.

“I can do that,” Lu said. “It was my fault.”
