Tori had a harder time than she expected convincing the others to harvest the Huan Xiang Zhou’s energy reserves. She supposed she shouldn’t have been quite so fatalistic about it to begin with.

None of the others seemed to share her horror of slow energy starvation, not even Mr. Yi, whose opinion didn’t really count in this instance since nobody trusted anything he said about his mission or harvesting energy.

Tori thought they could probably trust his survival instincts, though. The man seemed determined to live as long as possible, whatever the cost to him or others.

Is that what they’d all turn into if they couldn’t get back to Hope? Scrabbling, grasping husks of their former selves, willing to do anything for a slightly longer lease on life?
