Gabe thought he might be in love.

He’d suspected as much ever since he’d awakened on the shuttle with Tori leaning over him like a haloed angel.

The feeling had grown as he'd worked alongside her as she brought her firece focus and brilliant logic to bear on the barely functioning shuttle. He even loved her prickly wit—arguing with her was exhilirating, like dancing with flame—both fascinating and dangerous. He had to be nimble to avoid getting burnt, but he couldn’t stay away.

But, of course, nothing permanent could grow between them. His family would never approve, for one thing. Not that they were here.

More importantly, though, she wasn’t a believer. That was a deal breaker. How could they even begin to relate if they had such fundamentally...
