The next time Sam woke up in the med bunk, his body screamed its pain just as loudly as the first time. He wondered how much time had passed, but his armband wasn’t responding the way it had been. It just flashed him a message that he was offline for medical reasons.

Medical reasons. Yeah, right.

He turned toward the panel to his right and found a likely looking red button to stab at.

“Mr. Greeley? Are you awake?” a cheerful woman’s voice said.

“Yes,” Sam said, surprised at how scratchy his own voice sounded. “What day is it?”

“Friday, J965-73. Welcome back,” the cheerful voice said.

Sam did some quick figuring in his head. “I’ve been out for three days?”
