Sam tried to maintain some sense of dignity as Captain Mackey frog-marched him through the sterile, maze-like GenM corridors, but it was hard.

His heart pounded, his palms sweated, and his head felt fogged. Still, he knew he needed to say something to keep himself from spending the night—or maybe longer—in the brig.

“Sir?” he said once they were a fair distance away from the meeting room where everything went wrong. “Do you really think this is wise?”

“Wise? You know what would have been wise? Keeping well away from my daughter, like I told you to.”

“Sir, she doesn’t keep away from me.”

“Don’t put this on her. And even if you couldn’t keep away, you should have at least kept your mouth shut.&rdquo...
