Sam wasn’t sure what shocked him more—that a whole gang of adults had gathered to bully a couple of teenagers to be quiet or that one of the teenagers’ parents was part of the posse.

He swiped at his armband to rewind his notetaker and replay the last couple of minutes.

“Are we boring you, Mr. Greeley?” the wizened old man at the head of the huge, shiny conference table asked. He stared pointedly at Sam’s arm.

Sam jerked his head upright. He had no desire to offend the head of GenM. “Sorry, sir. I’m just replaying that last bit because I can’t quite believe Captain Mackey actually said that whatever Wilson Cartier had done to his daughter, going to the police was an overreaction.”
