Still, as she struggled to hold up her end of the last beam while Sam and one of his uncles slotted a cross piece into place, she felt strangely satisfied.

“All right,” Sam said, sounding even more tired than Eleanor felt. “That looks like it’s going to hold. Let’s get the floor on, get the pallet back up to the greenhouses, and then we can get to school.”
