Sam followed close behind Beatrice Miller. They’d taken so many twists and turns, he wasn’t sure he could find his way back to the entrance if he lost her.

He was relieved when she finally stopped in front of a door, a genuine, solid antique door, with a door knob and hinges and everything.

“What’s in there?” Sam whispered.

“Labs.”

Well, that explained why the entrance was solid, anyway.

Ms. Miller rapped on the door, turned the knob, and pushed it open to reveal a room full of black counters and high stools.

Sam didn’t see any people at first. Then Wilson Cartier appeared from behind a cabinet near the back corner, turning to face them.
