him a crooked smile. “You’re right, and it’s good to see you take it so seriously. Still, I think you’re safe to go. I don’t think it will blow tonight, but if it does, I’ve set up a warning system and have a contingency plan in place. You should definitely head home. Your parents will want to make sure you’re all right after what happened in the junkyard.”

“Why? What happened in the junkyard?” Li asked. “Did a bin of old parts fall on him or something?”

Sam shook his head. “It was nothing.”

Mrs. Jackson snorted. “Nothing? That idiot Wilson Cartier lost his temper, broke a piece of antique equipment, and then tried to blame it on you.”

“Really? How horrible.” Li’s cheeks pinked a little....
