When Sam and Li got to the greenhouse that afternoon, the bot had completed its diagnostic. It needed a new drive belt, several new parts for its internal fans, and a repair or replacement for one of its smaller circuit boards.

None of these parts could be purchased from standard suppliers anymore, so Mrs. Jackson sent Li to the library in hopes she could find printer specs for the old parts. She tasked Sam with looking for what they needed in the junkyard.

Sam hummed on the way there. He loved exploring the heaps of old gadgets that piled up in the junkyard until they found new leases on life or were consigned to the uninhabitable zones for being completely unsalvageable. He never knew what he might find or where he might find it.
