Falling onto my bed, my eyes closed. Pain still shot through my side. Either Anna was smart and remembered my injury, or lucky. Most likely lucky. Girl could probably stand in front of a firing squad and walk away without a scratch. Was partly my own stupidity that I hurt this much. Should be resting and not humoring her. “You still awake?” And she was getting quieter. Needed to get her to start knocking. I wasn’t bed bound anymore.
“I am.” Sitting up, I watched Anna close the door behind her.
Stepping closer, she took a seat next to me. “How’s your side?”
“Fine.” Anna took my hand. “Why are you here?”
“To check up on you.” Little liar, but still...
