“This will be your quarters,” the Head Sister said, holding the curtain aside on a doorway.

Nalyata looked inside. There were four bunk beds in each corner of the small room. Nobody was in the barren room, all out performing their duties. Aside from the beds, the only other notable feature of the room was a closet without a door. It was partitioned into eight small sections, each containing two extra gray shawls, hijabs, and pairs of slippers for the other Sisters. One was empty.

“We are in the process of obtaining changes of clothes for you from recycling,” the Head Sister said, “until then, you are not to dirty the shawl and hijab you’re wearing now.”

“Yes, Head Sister,” Nalyata said.
