Abigail supposed Milo had brought in something too big to chew on from out there and that she’d have to help. She detested the killing, but Milo was her responsibility. To let the poor things suffer would be cruel. The stair lift was at the top of the stairs. She sometimes liked to walk down under her own power, to test her strength and build more, but that was a morning fool’s way. In the evening, the chair did all the work.
The basement walls hadn’t been finished, and Abigail had no intention of having them papered over or painted. The stairs were wood planks with no backboards.
