The beaver hadn’t expected the human to pounce or to move with such quickness without looking. The weight stunned her. She clawed to get herself oriented. The force of the fall had flipped her around. Her face was in the grass. She gnawed anyway, ripping through the tasteless grass and the dull, crumbly dirt.
The human lifted itself off of her and scrambled back on its hands and knees. It tried to get up and fell. The beaver opened her mouth and sprinted forward.
