Chapter Sixteen
Star of Dominance 

                The box revealed the star that had been in the picture in Marissa’s basement. The swirling designs Lilly had first noticed in the picture were not just designs, but raised ridges meeting various buttons in the form of swirling masses resembling whirlpools. The eye with the blue gem appeared to blink as she stared at it. The box was packed with shredded newspaper and rolled papers covered in dust. She touched the scrolls that were tied with black ribbon, feeling thin parchment that she feared would crumble if she tried to read them. A letter from her father sat on the top, his script gracing the front of the envelope. To whom it may concern.
