That night the house came alive with ghosts—Lilly’s ears picked up sounds of past events that had not taken place within the walls of the ancestral Maywell home. Screams, sirens, sighs, voices murmuring “two dead”, whispers as people moved too quickly while a younger Lilly tried to remember how to breath—all ran through her mind as though the events had just taken place instead of years prior. Her neck ached, fire-hot hands, rough hands had held too tight. Bruises had formed and even now when she glanced at a mirror too quickly she thought she could see them again. Ghost marks, traces—marking her as scarred territory.
