A new night was stretching out across the sky when Adelynn and Neba arrived at the small building. It was a modest structure - two stories tall, made of the standard dark stone that kept the building and its inhabitants shielded from the heat of flares.
Light shone through the windows on the ground floor, which were open to let in the evening air in. In the dark that followed the sunset, the light from the building shone bright as a beacon in the dry, unremarkable landscape.
As they approached, Adelynn and Neba could hear the steady rumble of conversation that came from inside the building as it pulsed through the night. Once they were a few yards from the entrance, Adelynn was able to make out the lettering on the sign that hung above the front door: Nassella’s Tavern and Inn.<...
