Fire was everywhere. Burning the ground around her, in her hair, filling her mouth. Adelynn screamed, but no sound came out of her mouth. Instead, a different, more tortured sound erupted somewhere in the distance.
Adelynn tried to turn around and find where the noise was coming from. She whipped back and forth, but there was only fire wherever she looked.
Another scream. This time she could make out what it said.
The voice was high and shrill. Angry.
She tried to return the call. To respond. To say she was here. But instead, fire burned her tongue and only a choked sob came through.
“Adelynn!” The voice sounded again, this time closer.
She spun again in a circle, this time seeing a hand, bright with flames, reach out and grasp her shoul...
