Neba let out a furious curse, but Adelynn stood her ground, not moving and not looking away from the Firewalker.
“How can you say that?” Neba demanded. “How can you stay here and wait to die when a way out is standing in front of you?”
“Because I would be no less free going with you than staying here. You only want me alive so that I can kill you. You don’t care that me leaving means that everyone else who has been captured trying to help me will be killed. You only care about your wants. You always have. Maybe I will die if I stay here. But maybe I will be able to save my friends before that happens.”
