Adelynn opened her eyes. It hurt. She closed them.
She tried to move her hands. Those hurt. Her legs, her head, every bit of her felt dull, aching, and unresponsive.
She tried her eyes once more and managed to open them just enough so that she was squinting into the harsh light of the room.
Her vision was blurry, but she could make out a few dark shapes moving nearby.
A noise came from her throat but seemed to get stuck at her lips, which refused to open.
One of the dark figures moved closer to her and pressed something cold against her forehead. It felt wonderful. She closed her eyes and fell back into a deep sleep.
“I told you not to trust her.”
