Adelynn’s vision wavered and her knees buckled, but she managed to stay upright and conscious. She turned around, but was too slow. A hand had already grasped her shoulder and another quickly angled a knife to her throat.
“Do not scream,” a voice rasped in her ear. “Or you die.”
Adelynn tried to grasp at the hand that held the knife, trying to jerk the arm away from her neck, but she was weak. She struggled against her captor for a few moments, but after a while, her tired muscles stopped responding and she slumped in the man’s grasp.
“Oh, the mighty Adelynn Wardrop,” the man chuckled to himself as he dragged her to a nearby tree.
He released his hold on her shoulder and shoved her to the ground. She tried to scramble to her feet, but her legs...
