There are few things more immediately soul-destroying than watching children immerse themselves in children’s entertainment that is riddled with sexism. Their innocent, immature, inexperienced minds are not yet able to tease apart the insidious social messages woven throughout the narratives used, and so they naturally absorb them, process them, and internalise them without even realising it. It’s like watching unsuspecting victims ingest the slowest acting poison imaginable and, because these are the children that will grow to form the society of the future, it is like watching the possibility of positive change wither and die before it ever has the chance to bloom.
