Now, don’t get me wrong. There is a time and a place for male characters to redeem themselves, and to occasionally rescue a woman – just as there is a time and a place for a woman to rescue a male character. The problem is that, when you have spent an entire movie creating a woman who is capable of rescuing herself and her family, shoe-horning in a scenario involving that woman suddenly failing and a man saving the day instead, is simply nonsensical. In this film in particular, it’s just not organic.
