When it was released in 1987, The Witches of Eastwick was received as something of a whimsical, dark comedy-fantasy. Audiences responded to its star-studded cast and sweeping orchestral soundtrack, and it fared well at the box office in relation to its budget. But in the context of the era, few really seemed to know what to do with the movie because, in reality, it was a little ahead of its time.
