The case of the 2019 psychological thriller Joker is a fascinating one. The public discourse that surrounded the film prior to its release, and immediately thereafter provided an interesting glimpse into social fears of the time, while the film itself proved to be an engrossing, well-crafted exploration of male violence. Both of these layers have bearing on misogyny in cinema, and the way in which that intersects with the world, making Joker a vital addition to Feminist Flicker.
