that he will be implicated in Washington’s murder and, in fact, a bullet from Ludlow’s gun is retrieved from Washington’s shoulder – Ludlow having returned fire against the gunmen during the attack.

Diskant is complicit in the cover up, and lets Ludlow know that the official report will have him arriving on the scene after Washington was shot. The shooting is attributed to two gang members named Fremont and Coates. Ludlow, however, disagrees, and insists that he wants to take down the men who killed his former partner – in direct contradiction to the orders he has received from Wander and Clady.
