Edith is another great character whose history is drawn out during her conversations with Enola and Sherlock. A formidable suffragette and key figure in the movement, she runs a martial arts school for women in a room above a tea shop (a nod to the real Edith, and the real suffragette martial artists), which also quietly provides feminist literature which has been banned by the Victorian patriarchal state. She identifies herself as Enola’s first teacher, and is clearly responsible for many of her jujitsu skills.
