This approach is never clearer than during the film’s denouement, when Molly and Amy are finally at Nick’s legendary party, and are eventually both disappointed in their romantic interests, and both devastated by a no-holds-barred argument. Amy bumps into Hope (Diana Silvers) in a bathroom and, after a verbal altercation, they begin to have sex. It is not filmed for titillation, though – nor is it initially broad comedy. It is respectfully shot to communicate the awkwardness of a first encounter, though it does then end in hilarious embarrassment. There is no shaming...
