It was a tall order, but It Chapter Two does a good job of adapting the second half of Stephen King’s legendary 1986 novel, It. Though the movie has been criticised for its lengthy 169 minute run-time, it distils the enormous source material into a largely cohesive narrative quite efficiently. When compared to its predecessor, the 2017 movie It, this sequel is more gross than scary – but that’s not a criticism. In fact, that shift in scare level only demonstrates the desire of all involved to remain faithful to the novel.
