 When we see Jerry take Lisa to his childhood home, we see Jerry secretly leave his knife behind in that cabin as soon as he realises Lisa wants to have sex with him. But, he still took the knife with him in the first place – revealing that his true intention is very different from the version of reality he presents to the world, and to himself.

Despite all of this, The Voices is not a film that perpetuates stigma around mental illness. Yes, Jerry is mentally ill and is also a serial killer – but, crucially, he has a very clear understanding about the points from which both those elements stem. We see in his flashb...
