David Duncan then begins to allow his injured ego to reveal itself a little, by asking Donnie why a woman like Jessica would want to associate herself with something like him. When Donnie claims it was because of his exceptional sexual prowess, David Duncan finally loses his cool and incurs the wrath of the judge. This is a battle of masculinity, through and through, and neither man responds well to having theirs challenged. We have seen that David cares more about his masculinity than he does about Jessica. Their tryst was clearly not about having sex with her, it was just about having sex with a woman who was supposed to ‘belong’ to someone else.
