When Netflix announced in 2012 that it would begin creating original content, hopes were high that the popular streaming platform would specifically target the huge gap in the entertainment market, and deliver projects from a wider variety of artists than are found in the more traditional theatrical and network television releases. While it has taken some time for this to become the case, Netflix is fast becoming the place to find great work from storytellers that don’t centre white men by default.
