Made back in 2000, High Fidelity is the big screen adaptation of Nick Hornby’s popular book of the same name. It is directed by Stephen Frears, with an adapted screenplay written by Steve Pink, Scott Rosenberg, D.V DeVincentis, and John Cusack - who also stars. It is, in technical terms, a well-executed piece of cinema, in that it does a very good job of preserving and communicating the central message of the source material. The point, though, is that the source material is all about awful men being awful, and entirely self-involved. The result, unsurprisingly, is an unflinching examination of a tried and tested sexist.
