Written and directed by Karen Leigh Hopkins in her theatrical directorial debut, Miss Meadows is a curious gem of a movie. While it did very little box office business upon its release in 2014, it has since surfaced on streaming platforms such as Netflix, providing an opportunity for audiences to immerse themselves in the very specific, very challenging world of the titular character.

The premise is deceptively simple: Miss Meadows (Katie Holmes) is a very ‘proper’ elementary school teacher, who dabbles in vigilantism in her spare time. The film, however, takes some very big themes – such as gun control, offender rehabilitation, prison reform, mental health, sexual predators, misogyny, victim blaming, and social justice – and twists them to create a story from a perspective different from that...
