Let’s not kid ourselves – the John Wick film franchise is entirely male wish fulfilment. He has a great house, cool cars, lots of guns, perfect fighting skills, and never a need to worry about money, or getting arrested. And that’s fine – I’m not in the business of begrudging the male of the species some wish fulfilment, even though male wish fulfilment has always made up the lion’s share of cinematic output. On the contrary, John Wick: Chapter 2 – like its 2014 predecessor, John Wick – is an entertaining movie. It’s just that it’s awful for women.
