When we talk about a feminist perspective on movies, it is important not overlook cinematic output that is specifically aimed at children. Animation is at once the least obvious, and most insidious culprit when it comes to genres that lend themselves to sexism in movies. The reason it is important to highlight this is that it demonstrates the extent to which gender bias exists in the film industry, and the ease with which it is fed to our younger generations. There are many highly successful and popular animation studios in operation at the current time. There’s Sony Animation, Warner Bros, Illumination, Aardman… But everyone loves Pixar, don’t they?
