This is the consequence of shooting a movie without the male gaze. There has indeed been a level of chemistry between the characters throughout the film – but it is never emphasised or centred. These two people are focused entirely on the work, and through that, they develop a deep respect for the other’s humanity and ability. In this way, Devoe comes to understand that he can make room for the perspective of another person, as opposed to continually centring himself as the most important presence in every scenario. He once continually and arrogantly interrupted her, now he is fully prepared to wait.
