So, by this point, I think we can agree that one of the causes of sexism in film is the fact that it is now a male-dominated industry, with women being given the opportunity to direct theatrical releases relatively rarely. The effect of this is to have the majority of output in cinemas be made from the male perspective and, while some male directors might be able to create work that treats women as equals, more often than not, films are biased toward men.
The very best way to expand our understanding of the difference between the work of male and female filmmakers is to specifically seek out and watch films directed by women.
