It’s a comedy, all about a guy whose dead girlfriend turns into a zombie. So far, so ‘blah’, right? We look at the premise, and the tag-line – “Some girls just want to watch the world burn” – and think, “Ugh, another female character suffers, to enhance the story of a man.” And it is exactly that - but the thing that sets it apart is the fact it is an exploration of that, rather than a perpetuation of it. Written and directed by Jeff Baena, it is an unflinching self-assessment of male privilege. In fact, it’s so brutal in its allegorical examinations, that it is almost an exercise in self-flagellation.
