It’s true – Suicide Squad is less than the sum of its parts.
Its parts are great. The film boasts some excellent characters, brilliant performances, and stunning visuals. There’s even some humour scattered here and there. Ultimately, however, it is undermined by an incredibly weak plot, which feels like it has been constructed as an afterthought – simply as a means to deliver a set of fascinating supervillains.
The plot is simple. Amanda Waller is a powerful woman in politics. She sees an opportunity to re-float an old plan now that meta-humans (superheroes) are becoming commonplace in society.
