It was April the 18th. Her favorite day of the year. Her birthday. Her dad would usually wake her up early in the morning singing “Happy birthday” at the top of his lungs making her laugh hysterically. Her dad had an awful singing voice, one that could drive a bad karaoke audience out of a bar in a matter of seconds, one that would wake up her mom and send her running to her room all worried. But she didn’t care. By the end, they would all scream “Happy birthday” together and he would ask her to pick a hand because he had a very special surprise for her. She’d have to concentrate and pick the right hand so she’d get her gift. But she was really good at guessing so she’d always win.
