One sentence stopped me recently: "There is a big difference between a boundary and a wall."
The words were written in a business context, but they stayed with me because they describe something far bigger than customer service. They describe relationships.
Many of us use the words "boundary" and "wall" almost interchangeably. We talk about putting up walls when we've been hurt or setting boundaries when we need to protect ourselves. But I have come to believe they are very different things.
A boundary says, "This is where I end, and you begin."
A wall says, "You don't get to know me."
One invites respect.
The other prevents connection.
Healthy boundaries actually make relationships safer.
