Jerry’s cousin, Donna, had been out for a weekend visit. Though it was trying, she had finally left, and things were slowly returning to normal. Negative, whiny and judgmental, Donna had (figuratively speaking) sucked the energy out of the room and the life of every individual in the house. It was all Jerry’s girlfriend, Elsie, could do to remain civil and not to explode in exasperation by the end of the weekend. Now Donna was gone, the whining and complaining had subsided, and both Jerry and Elsie lay sprawled on the chesterfield like two rag dolls.
